"The electrifying new Joe Pickett novel from the New York Times-bestselling author. Everything about the man is a mystery: the massive ranch in the remote Black Hills of Wyoming that nobody ever visits, the women who live with him, the secret philanthropies, the private airstrip, the sudden disappearances. And especially the persistent rumors that the man's wealth comes from killing people. Joe Pickett, still officially a game warden but now mostly a troubleshooter for the governor, is assigned to find out what the truth is, but he discovers a lot more than he'd bargained for. There are two other men living up at that ranch. One is a stone-cold killer who takes an instant dislike to Joe. The other is new-but Joe knows him all too well. The first man doesn't frighten Joe. The second is another story entirely"-- Provided by publisher.

A mediocre read. A secondary plot featuring his daughter Sheridan and the set-up for a future book about difficult daughter April. Nate was the main attraction in the story; the bad guys appropriately dispatched; the Leader of the pack - who knows?

The ending seemed rushed & just thrown together just to quickly finish the book !

There have been better 'Joe Pickett' novels, but this was different and showed Nate in a completely different light. Quite gripping and very enjoyable.

Does Stone Cold refer to Game Warden Joe Pickett’s friend Nate Romanoski? In this entry Nate is hired as a contract killer and Joe is sent to investigate the organization for which Nate is working. Mayhem ensues. Side plots involving two of Joe’s daughters serve as distractions. There’s a lot of suspense in this entry and two climactic scenes.

While the main character is too much of a 'black and white' law and order person for me to like, the book was an interesting read. I liked the more secondary character, Nate, much better and hope he turns up in future novels.

Another great book about Warden Joe.

I waited nearly 4 1/2 months for Stone Cold to arrive. I will say this story is little like the old Saturday matinee with a thrill a minute, every scene promising an end to the hero unless something miraculous saves him. Of course, in those matinees the bad guys were evil beyond redemption and each of them was fatally flawed for choosing the evil path in the first place. That is unfortunately how Stone Cold left me. There is just too much for me to swallow here. Having the tragic shooting death of the boy on a rooftop by the police made me grimace at how patently absurd C.J. Box went for the jugular in every way possible. And the family dialog and family spirit of previous novels just was given lip service in Stone Cold.
