On May 14 and 15, 2011, residents of the Town of Slave Lake and surrounding communities an M.D, #124 were engulfed in a natural disaster of colossal proportions. Nobody expected it: none was prepared for he speed and ferocity of the wildfires that swept through the area. Approximately 9,000 people were evacuated for 12 days; 433 single-family homes, 6 apartment buildings, 3 churches, and 11 businesses were destroyed.
