On the day of James Kirk's birth, his father dies on his ship in a last stand against a mysterious alien vessel. He was searching for Ambassador Spock, who is a child on Vulcan, disdained by his neighbors for his half-human nature. Twenty years later, Kirk has grown into a young troublemaker. He is inspired by Capt. Christopher Pike to fulfill his potential in Starfleet, even though he annoys his instructors. Suddenly, there is an emergency on Vulcan when the Romulan Nero comes from the future to take revenge on the Federation. The newly commissioned USS Enterprise is crewed with promising cadets like Uhura, Sulu, Chekov and even Kirk himself thanks to Leonard McCoy's medical trickery. Together, this crew will travel to the final frontier where the old legend is altered forever.

I used to hate star trek, but this movie, and the two after it made it so i didn't mind it as much. Good movie the best out of the three.

I had never watched the original series from the 60's so I never understood some of the references a Trekkie would. But I decided to throw myself into the Star Trek universe through this movie and I found out that I loved it. Chris Pine, in my honest opinion, was made for Captain Kirk and Zachary Quito as Spock just nailed it. If I didn't like Star Trek then, I do now.

I missed this when it came out and only after liking "Into Darkness" casting decided to give it a try. It was fine, but there was no real political message--nothing about race, religion, environmentalism--the things that I always associate with Star Trek (yes I am that old.) What is the point of Star Trek if we can't tackle important issues?

I'm using my dad's account. I'm an 18 year old girl and I would like to say: this movies was awesome! And I definitely can recommend it to everyone especially to this generation. Had one of my favourite plots and action plus Chris Pine looks kinda cute here too which adds a bonus! Out of 1-10 I rate it 10/10 or maybe a bit more since it was that good!

About midway in the movie there is and off hand comment about "alternative reality" apparently in a belated attempt to cover the glaring lack of Respect for the original series. In the original we had no reason to believe that Kirk was a total dick, there was No indication of a relationship between Uhura and Spock. Spoks mom was alive and well in the original oh and how in the hell did some mining vessel morph into the ultimate weapon of mass destruction and time travel.

Well, I'm an "older Trekker" and disliked this version intensely. Leonard Nimoy's resurrection as the original, but much older, Spock is weak, but I'm grateful he was there as an anchor to what went before. This movie specializes in spectacular jumps in scene as well as in space. There is far too much fighting. If the needs of the many have deteriorated to this low, no-philosphy level, they can have it. Give me the original series and the Next Generation! They have substance, but this thing has none. Nothing can be learned here. It's suitable for age 10--maybe.

Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: Permission to speak freely, sir?

Spock: I welcome it.

Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: Do you? OK, then. Are you out of your Vulcan mind? Are you making a logical choice, sending Kirk away? Probably. But, the right one? You know, back home we have a saying: "If you're gonna ride in the Kentucky Derby, you don't leave your prize stallion in the stable."

Spock: A curious metaphor, doctor, as a stallion must first be broken before it can reach its potential.

Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: My God, man, you could at least ACT like it was a hard decision.

Spock: I intend to assist in the effort to reestablish communication with Starfleet. However, if crew morale is better served by my roaming the halls weeping, I will gladly defer to your medical expertise. Excuse me.

Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: [as Spock leaves] Green-blooded hobgoblin.

Flight Officer: "...You need a doctor." Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "I told you people I don't need a doctor, dammit -- I AM a doctor!" Flight Officer: "You need to get back to your seat." Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "I had one. In the bathroom with no windows." Flight Officer: "You need to get back in your seat, NOW." Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "I suffer from aviophobia -- it means fear of dying in something that flies!" Flight Officer: "Sir, for your own safety, sit down or else I'll make you sit down!"

Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "I may throw up on ya." James T. Kirk: "I think these things are pretty safe." Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "Don't pander to me, kid. One tiny crack in the hull and our blood boils in thirteen seconds. Solar flare might crop up, cook us in our seats. And wait'll you're sitting pretty with a case of Andorian shingles, see if you're still so relaxed when your eyeballs are bleeding. Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence." James T. Kirk: "Well, I hate to break this to you, but Starfleet operates in space." Leonard 'Bones' McCoy: "Yeah. Well, I got nowhere else to go. The ex-wife took the whole damn planet in the divorce. All I got left is my 'bones'." (sips out of his flask, hands it to Kirk)
