Lucia Sartori is a young Italian woman living in Greenwich Village in the 1950s and she is engaged to Dante DeMartino. Lucia over looks many of the flaws that Dante has until one night his mother expresses her idea of the life that Lucia is supposed to lead once they get married. His mother believes an Italian women's job is to revolve her life around her husband and housework but Lucia says no and calls off the engagement. Then she meets spontaneous and exciting exciting John Talbot who makes her life take an interesting turn. I really enjoyed this book because it shows the power of family, love, and friendship while showing independence.

Love every book from this author, and I have read all of them.

A pleasant lazy day read. Nothing earthshattering, although a lot happens to an Italian family in the space of a few months.

I thorougly enjoyed this book. It reminded me of an old movie, the way the plot started weaving the present with the past through the friendship of a young woman and a much older woman with a fascinating past. I found the novel had a combination of an interesting narrative along with a well-fleshed out cast of characters. I would highly recommend this book to readers of all ages.

A chick-lit filled with rich Italian culture and a nostalgic feel towards the 1950s. Although I found certain profound passages once in a while concerning the 'role' of a woman in the mid-20th century, the novel lacked humour or a gripping plot to keep me glued to each page.
